Enterprise Design

Shaping the Future of Supervisory & Compliance Practices

To tackle these challenges, I was brought in as the UX Research Lead with the objective to develop a Supervisory and Compliance management system that would be useful in production environments by Q3 2019. Our research focused on uncovering target users' insights, preferences, and requirements to produce frictionless, functional, and valuable experiences.

The ongoing research involved implementing, testing, and iterating until the target state or optimal experience was achieved. We continuously validated designs and tested the rollout of new and enhanced features to the prototype to ensure it satisfied brand standards and ADA Standards for Accessibility. This approach helped us to deliver a cohesive and streamlined technology solution that addressed the challenges faced by Wells Fargo Advisors and delivered significant value to the organization.

As the UX Research Lead at Wells Fargo Advisors, I was tasked with designing and validating a Supervisory and Compliance management system that would streamline the company's outdated manual methods and disparate enterprise information systems. To achieve this goal, I leveraged an Enterprise Design and Product experience approach that involved conducting extensive user research to identify pain points, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

Research Approach

To tackle these challenges, I utilized the power of Human-Centered Design. I developed an agile research plan that involved conducting studies in intervals ranging from two to ten weeks. I employed ethnographic research methods, participatory ideation workshops, and evaluative usability studies to identify key issues, pain points, and opportunities for improvement.

Collaboration with Stakeholders

I worked closely with Supervisors and stakeholders with compliance designations across the organization to identify pain points and opportunities for improvement. I conducted user research to gain insights into how employees were currently using technology and identified areas where new solutions could be developed to improve workflows and processes. I also collaborated with the Project Sponsor and cross-functional teams to design, test, and implement new technology solutions that met the needs of the organization and its employees.

Creating a Culture of User-Centered Design

To promote a culture of user-centered design, I championed user research and design thinking methodologies throughout the organization. This helped to foster a deep understanding of user needs and a focus on user-centric solutions. I continuously validated designs and tested the rollout of new and enhanced features to the prototype to ensure it satisfied brand standards and ADA Standards for Accessibility.

THE CHALLENGE

Wells Fargo Advisors, third largest private equity firm in the United States with $1.9 trillion retail client assets under management, was facing a number of significant challenges when it comes to delivering effective technology solutions to its back office. Despite efforts to improve its operations and streamline its workflows, the company has been unable to fully modernize its approach to data management and compliance. This has led to a number of key issues and concerns, including the widespread use of outdated manual methods and disparate enterprise information systems, and was projected to cost the bank a staggering $200 million in compliance every year if not corrected.

Value Created

My proposed approach in this project really paid off for Wells Fargo Advisors. Our team was able to create a streamlined technology solution that addressed the challenges related to supervision and compliance. The new system helped to reduce inefficiencies and regulatory risks, making life easier for everyone involved.

In fact, after implementing my evidence-based recommendations, we saw a 20% increase in end-user satisfaction over two program integrations. That was a big win for the organization and underscored how much of a difference a user-centered design approach can make.
